Hi guys, i thought i would take some time to give you my thoughts on the mesmer class.
as you know my primary character is a mesmer and i have played with him for over a year now. ive done PvP, PvE and naked dancing with him
Well here goes, my thoughts on the mesmer class.
1) mesmers are not tanks.
the mesmer has one of the lowest armor levels in the game, at a max of 60. also only attacks in ranged (native) form using staffs and wands where possible.
ive made the point of telling you that its NOT a tank because allot of people will see the spells that lower damage received from specific types (ie 40% of earth damage is negated) and think that it will go well with a Warrior secondary. this is STUPID! if i have to tell you why then you've never played a warrior OR a mesmer!
- just in case i HAVE to spell it out. warriors don't use spells.. mesmers primary is fast cast... this will not effect the warrior ability's there by negating the mesmers purpose!
2) mesmers are not healers
no fast casting does NOT out power divine favor. you can cast those heals as fast as your able BUT the added power a monk gets from divine favor is way way way better than whats gained with fast casting! - do the math, the monk with divine favor at lvl 10 or higher does more heals per second than the mesmer with fast cast at lvl15!
3) no you will never know what the mesmer is doing.
I have been in groups SOOO many times in PvP AND PvE where people have either kicked me for 'not doing anything' or point blank told me im not helping. now to those people i would like to say 'SHUT UP AND THINK' my mesmer is an illusion mesmer. meaning i drain HP from the enemy target (also known as DEGEN) it may look like the mesmers not doing any damage BUT just time it.... see... the bad dude dies faster when the mesmers involved.
the other point is that the mesmer has more interrupts and energy drains than ANY other class. meaning if you got a monk thats doing his job, the mesmer can literally make him crippled.
*** Lairds Final thought. ***
if you are gena player a mesmer then focus all your points into one type of skill, then once thats maxed put a pile in fast casting, with the few points thats left i recommend using a monk 2ndary just for healing breeze to keep yourself in the fight.
my build is
fast cast at 12
illusion magic 15 (runes... before you ask)
and the rest on healing (just a few)
The elite spell i use is Migraine (yes capped that today FINALLY)
the rest are De-gen spells and healing breeze at the end for good mesure.
so..... that are your thoughts on the mesmer... what 2ndarry do you use and why?
come on people its a forum.. happy talkie talkie happy talk! |

My main character is a mesmer too...
I'm Me/N
Attributes:
FC: 11 I think
Domination: 14-16
Inspiration: 11
I use empathy, backfire, energy surge (or something else in some specific areas), drain enchantment(heal+energy woohoo), leech signet from the mesmer line
From necro I only use Necrosis
And then different pve-skills for different areas... _________________

backfire is great. the reason i stick to illusion is because of the de-gen. ive tested things over and over, de-gen is the fastest way to drop a boss. including shiro.
my next profession post will be about the assassin (because thats the only other profession i have any real skill in) |

max degen at -10 is 20dmg/s
Backfire on a caster is 140dmg every time the caster uses a spell, it also stops them from casting spells sometimes, and it's especially good against bosses (unless you're in proph)
Empathy against a warrior is 55dmg/1.33s = ~41dmg/s ^^ (much more in HM) _________________

Having a mesmer also i play mix of both Migraine and MoR depending on what are/mission i'm doing in PvE. Normally Me/Mo, but no healing Breeze, just a fast res which i also use in PvP.
My PvP mesmer is normally an Ineptitude Degener thingy Which btw pwns everything
Ooh, and IW ftw |

yeah an usuran WaMo kicks ass. i have only ever really played Mesmer/Variable or Assassin/Monk though but i am gena try combining the assassin skills with some paragon motivational stuff.. but thats for another thread!
The usuran assassin is still very popular in PvE missions, works well for an anti-Shiro build i hear. But again... for a different thread. |
