Here's the very first chapter of my GWEN story! Since you all know the beginning, I'll just start in the Depths. Smile

(Author's note: Syd isn't me. He's my Necro.)

(Another note: If you wanna know what the story's about, read the Bio's and Plot topic first)

LONELY TRAVELERS

Chapter One: Down Under

Her arms hurt. Her legs hurt. Her head hurt.

Samira Elodryn felt as if she was going to die right there. She couldn't remember anything but a fall from a great height.

Then she felt something-or someone, stroking her hair.

Samira tried to look up. She managed to do so after a few seconds, and what she saw shocked her. It was a creature. One unlike any other she had ever seen before. It had large ears, big eyes, and was smiling at her with even bigger fangs.

Samira wanted to scream, but it came out as a weak gasp. She continued looking at the creature, mouth wide open.

It went on like this for a few moments. Neither Samira nor the creature said or did anything besides look at each other.

The creature closed his mouth and continued to smile.

"This one's alive!" the creature called as he stood up again, heading around the corner.

Samira took this opportunity to look around. She was in a cave of some sorts. But unlike other caves, this cave looked as if people lived in it. Big pillars everywhere, and paintings on the cave wall. She looked at one particular painting of two stick figures holding eachothers hand under a yellow sun.

Samira stopped watching at the paintings as she heard footsteps come from the way the small creature went.

The footsteps came closer and closer, and then, three figures entered the "room".

One, she could see, was a Dwarf. He was small, chubby, bald, and had a long beard that reached his middle. He wore traditional Monk robes, sized down for his posture.

The second was the creature Samira had seen when she first woke up. His eyes, big and black, shifted constantly. He was wearing a small robe with triangles all over, probably a magic form for his people. There was a headwrap around his head. When he noticed that Samira was looking at her, he made a bow that would be comical if Samira wasn't under this much pain.

The third, thank Dwayna, was a human. Dressed in classic Canthan Necromancer robes, with a medallion around his neck. The scar pattern on his face looked creepy, since you couldn't see his left iris and pupil. It also looked mismatched, as there was already a big real scar running across his face.

"Is this the girl you saw, Vekk?" asked the Dwarf with a deep voice.
"Well, do you see any other girls around?" the strange creature replied.
"Okay, wait for a moment." the Dwarf said as he grabbed his belt pouch, and pulled out a potion, with which he ran to Samira, who laid shivering on the cold floor.

"Ogden, are you sure this'll work?" said the Necromancer as he walked down to the place Samira was lying and sat down next to her.

"Of course it'll work!" the Dwarf replied. "I'm the best Monk around! Now hold still, girl..."

Samira did as she was told, and didn't move. Ogden pulled the cork stopper out of the bottle.

"Here, drink this. You'll feel a lot better afterwards" Ogden mumbled as he held the bottle to her mouth. Samira opened her mouth, and started to drink. It was sour. Very sour. She wanted to spit it out, but the bottle prevented this, so she had to drink this.

Samira closed her eyes and drank the liquid. After a few seconds, she could finally use her arms again, and by the time the bottle was empty, she could stand up.

She did so, and dusted herself off. Ogden and the Necromancer did so, too.

"Who are you? Samira asked the three. The Necromancer looked at the ground and shuffled with his feet a bit before looking up again.

"I'm Syd." he replied softly. "And these are my friends...that Dwarf over there is Ogden Stonehealer. And that," he pointed to the small creature, "is Vekk. He's an Asura."

Vekk smiled proudly. "Indeed, I am, bookah. So you'd better watch out. I can kill you with my mind." he stated, doing a fake telepathic stance to emphasize his point.

Syd laughed. "Now, Vekk, you shouldn't kill a potential friend." He turned back to Samira. "Who are you?"

"My name's Samira. I'm from Ascalon." Samira blurted out.

"You don't look Ascalonian to me." said Syd, smiling.

"4 years in Kryta will do that to you." Samira chuckled. Even though this guy looked scary, he seemed nice enough.

"Sorry if you mind me asking, but what are you doing here?" Syd asked, getting a bit closer to her.

Samira replied by turning her head to the large crack in the ground above her.

"Oh. The earthquake." Syd mumbled. "Those have been happening a lot lately."

"Well, I'm not going to cry about it. I just want to get back to the surface." said Samira, folding her arms and looking back to Syd.

"Are you mad? It's not safe up there!" Syd shouted.

Samira was just about to say something when Vekk came hobbling towards them.

"Well Syd, it's not safe down here either. The Destroyers are right behind me." he said.

"Destroyers!? What are those!?"

"Damn!" Syd shouted. "What are we going to do now?"

"Wait!" said Samira. "Maybe the earthquakes opened up other passages."

Vekk grinned sheepishly, then turned to Syd.

"Syd, are you pondering what I'm pondering?" Vekk questioned. Syd smiled.

"YEAH! Thanks Samira! Hey, by the way, you have to come with us!" he called out.

"Why should I?" Samira replied, pouting.

"You have NO other choice. It's either going with us, or die a slow, horrible, painful death." Vekk said, then shivered himself at the thought of it.

"Only if you'll bring me back to Lion's Arch."

"Deal."

"Okay."

____________

An hour had passed, and they were still running through the Depths. Samira had discovered that the Destroyers were strange, fiery creatures, who didn't think about their actions one second.

Now Syd and her were cornered by two Destroyers. Vekk and Ogden were nowhere to be seen. Samira panicked. She didn't want to die like this. Not with a person she barely knew. But clearly, this was going to be the end for her.

"Errm, Samira?" Syd asked, reaching in his bag.

"Yes?"

"You familliar with swords?"

Samira opened her eyes, and looked to Syd's direction. He was holding two butterfly swords, one gold and one silver, and tossed them to her. Samira managed to catch them without losing a hand, and held them firmly in her hands...her own weapons.

"Ready?" Syd asked as he took his own sword in his hand.

"Yeah."

"Okay. Three, two, one...GO!"

Samira and Syd both charged at the Destroyers. Samira jumped at the smallest one. It was fast, dodging her first slash, then her second, and then striked at her. Samira felt her skin burn as he punched her, but decided to fight back, this time a bit harder. Samira jumped over the small Destroyer, and then struck from behind, stabbing him in the back. The Destroyer fell to the ground, dead. Samira gasped. Her first kill...

Syd was having a much easier time, having done this before. He evaded the Destroyer's first blow. Then he kicked him where his stomach was supposed to be. The Destroyer made a strange sound, but then took his battle stance again and aimed a punch at Syd's leg. Syd was quick to dodge this, and jumped over him in a way similar to what Samira did earlier. The Destroyer stopped moving for a few seconds. Syd had waited for this moment. Grabbing a second sword out of his bag, he held it up high, and then slashed away at the Destroyer, who still didn't move. He dealt about ten slashes in 8 seconds. Syd smiled wickedly and then stood beside Samira.

"What's happening?" Samira asked.
"Just wait and see..." Syd replied, still with the mad smile on his face.

The Destroyer started shaking violently. It all happened in a flash. First his arms fell off, then his legs, and finally, his head exploded with a sickening pop.

"Fatality." Syd remarked as he walked over to the dead Destroyer to loot the body.

_______

Half an hour later, they met up with Vekk and Ogden at a large purple portal.

"This," Vekk started, "is an Asura Gate. We use them to travel all over the world in a matter of seconds. Most of them lead to the Central Transfer Chamber, but the Destroyers have taken control there."

"So where does this lead to?" Syd asked Vekk, who was smiling widely.

"To a small outpost in the Far Shiverpeaks. That's miles from here."

"Okay. Samira, do you still feel like coming with us?" Syd asked Samira.

Samira thought for a moment. She had always wanted to go on an adventure. This was probably the only chance. If she chose to do it, she could die. If she didn't, she would be bored for the rest of her life. Finally, she decided.

"Only if I can keep these swords." Samira chuckled.

Syd laughed. "Deal!" he said as he took her hand and took her with them, into the unknown, with a purpose yet to be discovered...

Somehow though, Samira had a positive feeling about this.

-----------------------------End of Chapter-------------------

Hope you enjoyed it. I'm actually trying to get off the dialogue based thingie, but as you can see in this chapter, I'm still doing it a lot. Smile

Please, to all the people who have read and liked my stories, or need any help with a story themselves, just reply on this topic. Makes it a lot more easier! Very Happy

Thanks guys! Here's a new chapter:

(THIS CHAPTER CONTAINS FACTIONS, PROPHECIES AND NIGHTFALL SPOILERS!)

Chapter Two: A Hero's Lament

Samira sighed. They had been in this place for two days now. Two days. She thought of what the Krytans would be doing now. Would they be looking for her? Probably not. Samira put her book down and looked around her.

Doggie: Yes, I did. First it was just about providing Cantha with medical supplies against the plague, but when we discovered Shiro was behind all of this, we set out to unite the Kurzicks and the Luxons, and stop Shiro for good.

Writer: Ah, I see, the plague. Were there any highlights on your travels?

Doggie: Well, yeah. You see, Sydeus-I just call him Syd-wasn't the brightest. Aerya had lots of trouble with him. Often about little things, like who was going to cook tonight or something. The highlight of our travels was when they merged into...an angel of some sorts. With white hair, wings and everything. I think they shared a magical bond with eachother. They couldn't live together or alone.

Writer: What happened after you defeated Shiro?

Doggie: A few months after we did so, I had to disband our guild because of personal problems. When we were back after a year or so, I tried to track them down, but to no avail. It seems as if they died or something.

Writer: And this concludes our interview....[/i]

Samira couldn't believe what she had just read. She was traveling with a Canthan hero. One who had faced the most threatening enemy of Cantha. One who had braved various challenges, killed great demons, and went through fires just to save his country.

_______________________________________

Two hours later, Syd and Vekk had come back from hunting, Samira and Ogden had cooked the bison meat, and they were sitting at a small table.

Samira sighed. She really couldn't eat. She turned her head to Syd, who was laughing at one of Ogden's jokes.

"Syd?" she asked, mentally slapping herself for starting with it.
"What's up, Samira? Ask away." he replied, turning to Samira, smiling.

For the first time in her life, Samira didn't know what to say. Should she get on with it, or drag it on as long as she could?

"How's it like being....well, a hero?" Samira blurted out. Syd looked at her in shock, dropped his fork, and then kneeled to pick it up. Ogden used the moment of distraction to leave.

"Mmm, that was nice, wasn't it, Vekk?" he said, rubbing his stomach. He took Vekk by his big ear and pulled him off his chair. "Oy, bookah, I'm not done yet!" Vekk shouted while Ogden pulled him to their tent.

Now there was Syd, Samira, and the silence between them.

"Ehh..." Syd began, scratching his head. Should he tell Samira what he was doing here? Samira watched Syd as his right eye started twitching, probably a sign he was nervous.

"Well, I guess I should tell you why exactly I was in that cave, shouldn't I? You already know about my past, so..." Syd said, then sighed. This was hard. Samira nodded.

"The truth is, I'm looking for my sister, Aerya. A...friend of mine said she would be around the Depths, but his prophecies are so cryptic, it could just as well mean the Depths would bring me to someone who could help me find her." He looked at the ground, then back at Samira, and smiled.

"I'd like the entire story, Syd."

"Okay, here, I'll tell you."

After we left Cantha in search of more adventures, we landed on Tyria, where we helped the Chosen get through Maguuma Jungle, and it was at the desert that we found out we were Chosen, too. Hunted down by the White Mantle, we made our way through the desert, defeated Glint, who showed us where Evennia was held, freed her, and discovered the Mursaat were the Unseen Gods of the White Mantle. A vizer said they were evil, so we dealt with them, and then headed to the Ring of Fire, where we opened the Door of Komalie, and let evil loose upon this world. We were decieved by the vizer into believing we worked for a greater good. The vizer, AKA the Lich, fought us and lost. We managed to get to Elona unseen, thinking of it as a little vacation.

But it wasn't. Varesh Ossa had designed a plan to merge our world with Abbadon's; to unleash Nightfall upon this world. We had to see thousands of Sunspears get killed, and then we decided to join them. We met a bright young Sunspear, Gana Calavera, who joined us. The fight against Varesh was hard, but we managed to beat her. But we were too late. The vortex to the Realm of Torment was already open. In the Realm of Torment, we met old enemies such as Shiro and the Lich, and finally managed to overthrow Abaddon.

In the coming years, we traveled across the world, helping where we could. We fought against the Charr in Ascalon, battled the White Mantle in Kryta, helping the Dwarves with eradicating the Stone Summit, cleared up Kaineng street gangs....

One day, I saw Aerya wake up, grab her stuff together, and leave. Without saying a word! Since the magical bond binds us to eachother, I can't live without her. So that's why I'm here: for personal reasons.

Samira sat with her mouth wide open. Syd just looked down to the ground and sobbed. "Will you help me find her?" he cried, wiping the tears off his face.

"Yes, I will." Samira said, putting an arm on Syd's back.

_______________

Meanwhile, in Vekk and Ogden's tent....

"That was so...sentimental!" Ogden sniffed, grabbing a hankey to clean his face.

"I'd say this author sucks." Vekk remarked.

*Vekk turns to the camera*

Vekk: What? Why are you staring at me?

*silence*

Syd: Vekk, your cue!

Vekk: Oh yeah. Be sure to read MY view on the entire thing soon, in the comedy "Vekk's journal!" on the Fangs forum in a week or so....ENJOY!

Syd: By the way, Vekk, has someone ever told you you kinda look like Stitch from that Disney movie?

Vekk: Yeah. Lots of people.

Syd: Oh.

----->>>>>>>>>END OF CHAPTER<<<<<<<<<------

Hope you all enjoyed it. And I'm not kidding. Vekk really does look like Stitch!

Thanks guys. Here's a next chapter.

(IMPORTANT STORY NEWS: From now on, I'll use PoV (Point of View) at certain parts to give the story more emotion, and make the characters less bland. Point Of View is written in first person and is indicated with (name of character)'s PoV.)

Chapter Three: Arrival at the Eye

-------------(Syd's PoV)-----------

It was cold today. Very cold. 'Damn.' I muttered under my breath. Yesterday had been a very long day. After telling Samira about my past, we talked about how exactly I wanted to look for Aerya, which places we were going to, who was going to help me, and other stuff. And today she wanted to come along with me, hunting. I rummaged around some in my bag, and took out the scarf Aerya gave to me a few years ago, on Christmas.

Samira just smiled at me, then turned her head back, and pointed to a big bison. 'Look, Syd, that's a large one.' she said as she pulled the butterfly swords I had given her out of her own bag, and then looked at me again. 'Can I do it this time?' she asked, looking at the bison, then back at me. 'Sure, go ahead.' I said, nodding. Samira smiled like a kid who's just gotten a Koss doll, stood up, and charged at the bison, who was relaxing, eating grass.

Samira let out a battle cry, something she shouldn't have done. The scream startled the bison, who charged back at her.

-----------------------Samira's PoV-------------------

I was startled, to say the least. The bison was coming at me so fast, and I was so scared I wasn't able to move...

The bison was standing on his back legs, ready to trample me, but just as he was about to do so, I heard someone shouting. All of a sudden, I felt dizzy, and it all went black...

When I managed to open my eyes again, I noticed I wasn't in the Ice Cliff Chasms anymore. I was lying in a large hall. There were paintings spread across the ceiling. I felt sleepy, but the dizziness was gone.

"She's awake!" I heard a voice say.

"Really?" another voice said.

I fully opened my eyes, then stood up and looked around.

Around me stood Syd, Vekk, Ogden, and a lot of people I didn't know. I looked closer and saw that Syd and the others were held by these soldier-like people"

"Get Captain Gwen." a Warrior said. "She'll know what to do with these imposters."

"We are NOT imposters. We were just looking for other humans." Syd said, trying to escape from the Warrior's grasp, but he didn't let go.

"Argus, let him go." a cool, feminine voice said.

In the door-opening stood a girl, about my age. She was dressed in black and blue, and anyone could see she was a Mesmer. Her hair hung a bit over her eyes-wait, her eyes. I knew those eyes.

"Gwen?" I asked nervously. She glared at me.

"CAPTAIN Gwen for you, imposter." she said, as she showed me a badge. "Assistant of Captain Langmar, who's currently in the Charr homelands. But that's none of your business."

"Gwen, it's me, Samira. Don't you...remember me?" I tried again, fearing the worst. She shot a death glare at me, which then softened into a smile, only to turn in an angry gaze again.

"If you ARE Samira, prove it." Gwen shouted at me. I sobbed into my arm, then grabbed my bag, and pulled out a silver bracelet. It had metal stars attached to it and was big enough to fit a child's wrist. Attached to it was a half of a golden heart. It had Gwen's name on it. I held it up, and Gwen took it from me. She then held up her own bracelet, which was still around her wrist, after all those years. The two pieces of heart fitted perfectly. Gwen started shaking. She closed the gap between us and stood next to me. Before I knew it, she was hugging me.

"Samira...I missed you...so much." Gwen sniffed, then started crying into my shoulder. "There, there, it's all right now." I said calmly, as if I was cheering up a small child.

"I...thought they took you too." Gwen managed to say between sniffs. "Just like they did with all my other friends."

After a few minutes of standing like this, Gwen finally let go and turned to the guards who were holding Syd, Vekk, and Ogden. "Let them go, men." she commanded, wiping away her remaining tears. "They are our friends. They are our allies." The guards obeyed and let go.

Syd, Vekk, and Ogden walked over to us, and bowed to Gwen.

"Thanks for trusting us, Captain." Syd said, standing up and smiling.

"I am not the real captain of this army, but no problem." Gwen answered with a smile, the first I've seen since I got here.

Gwen turned back to me. "We are the Ebon Vanguard. Even after 6 years, we continue to fight the Charr. The real captain, Captain Langmar, is currently in the Charr homelands. But her squad is a month overdue, and I fear the worst. Until she returns, I control this army, along with another Ebon Vanguard Captain Assistant."

"And who might that be?" Syd asked, his head turning to the open door again.

"Wait, I will call him." Gwen hurried off through the doorway. Finally, some time to talk with Syd.

"What happened while I was lying there, Syd?" I asked carefully.

Syd looked to the ground.

"The bison was killed by an Ebon Vanguard soldier before it could kill you. Afterwards he asked who we were, and I said we were adventurers from the south. And we asked where there were more humans. He saw you, and thought you were dead, so he thought we killed you. Then he took us to this place. It's called the Eye of the North. Sounds romantic, eh?" He winked at me.

Then Gwen walked in, and everything was quiet. "This is my colleague assistant. Please, take off your hood so they can see you..." she said to the man standing next to her, whose head wasn't visible thanks to the Grim Reaper-esque hood that covered most of his face.

"Of course, Gwen." the hooded figure replied with a deep voice. He slowly undid his hood, revealing a bald head and a tattooed scalp. Syd gasped.

"DOGGIE!"

=============END OF CHAPTER==============

Hope you all enjoyed it, especially the little clffhanger at the end!

Point of View will become very important in later chapters, I was just trying it out in this one.

If you like this story, and have some time, please review! It would help me a lot with improving the story! If you like the story as it is now, it's a bit of a win/win situation.

Chapter 4: Old Friends, Old Memories

Syd's PoV

We stared at eachother for what seemed like an hour, neither of us saying a word. Doggie smiled wryly. "It's been a long time Syd." he finally said, still looking me straight in the eyes. "Yeah." I replied, smiling. "So, what happened to you after we killed Shiro? You must be a very rich man now. Or are you still....helpless?" Doggie chuckled, slowly walking towards me. "Aerya and I left Cantha two months later." I tried to say coolly, but talking about Aerya gave me a headache. "Two months....ahh, that's when..." Doggie's eyes widened.

Fire rained down from the sky as people were slain, abused, humilliated, and tortured by the Charr. People were immolated by the fire storm the Charr had cast down upon the kingdom of Ascalon. The few people still alive were taken prisoner. The last day had ended. Ascalon was no longer a mighty kingdom. Some people fled, others joined the Vanguard in a battle they would not win. Ascalon was no more.

"...the Searing destroyed our lives." Doggie muttered, kneeling on the cold stone floor, and shedding silent tears. During this his cloak fell off. I saw the very tattoos I had last seen 7 years ago, but this time something was different. Doggie had scars and burning marks all over his body. I sat down next to him, Gwen, Samira, Ogden, and Vekk did so too. "Come on, it'll be alright." I said as I patted him on the back. "You've got us now." Samira added. I think she really cared for him at this moment, probably because she had been a victim of the Searing before, so she had told me.
"Calm down, and take a deep breath." Ogden said to Doggie, grabbing a bottle out of his bag and handing it to Doggie. "Here, take this. It'll make you feel better." he said. Doggie muttered an almost unhearable "thanks", stood up, and stuffed the bottle in his belt pouch. We stood up too.

"Doggie, may I ask you something?" I said carefully, afraid that Doggie would go emotional again. "Of course." he replied.

"Well, what exactly happened to the Fangs during the last seven years?"

Doggie looked to the ground, sighed, and then looked at me again. I could see numerous scars lining his face, a face that was once joyful, looked sad at me.

"During the Searing....we lost many guildies. Good guildies. Due to us being the main force against the Charr, they targeted us first. They came to the Guild Hall, and....killed everyone in sight." Doggie said sadly, wiping tears from his face. "We started rebuilding about 2 years ago. Currently we have about 39 members, including Rion and I." he sniffed. "Want to join us again?" he added, holding up a hand for me to shake. "Deal." I said as I took his hand and shaked it. "And these people will join too." I said as I pointed to Samira, Vekk, and Ogden. "And what about you, Gwen?" I asked to Gwen, who was standing in a corner. "I joined a year ago." Gwen said as she twirled around, revealing the Fangs guild cape, the same symbol I've worn so many years ago. "Say, Doggie, how would you like joining our group again?" I asked, turning back to Doggie and smiling. "Sure. We have to find Captain Langmar's group, and Gwen and I can't do it alone, you know." I cheered. "What are YOU looking for, Syd?" Doggie asked me. "Aerya disappeared 3 years ago. I'm looking for her." I said. "Okay, Gwen and I will help you guys look for her, but first, I'd like to show you something."

*------....__The Scrying Pool/The First Vision__....------*

Samira's PoV

I felt Doggie's pain. The Searing was the worst thing ever to happen to me, and I felt sorry for him. I looked at him one more time before we arrived in a large hall. It had all kinds of statues, and looked like it was dedicated to a hero of some sort.

"This," Doggie said, "is the Hall of Monuments. It was here when we first came here." I looked to the center, where a huge pool of water was.

"What is this?" I asked. Syd stood next to me, and looked closer at the pool. "It looks like some sort of scrying device." Syd said, closer examining the pool. "We know it's magic, but can't get it to work. It almost looks as if it's waiting for something...or someone." Gwen turned to Syd. "You are a hero. Maybe it's waiting for you." Gwen remarked, skipping to the pool. Syd followed her and concentrated. After a few moments of unbearable silence, Syd finally went back. "Nothing." he remarked. Then I had an idea: maybe I could see something! I ran to the pool, and almost fell in it. I knelt down before the scrying pool and concentrated deeply. Suddenly a feeling of enlightenment coursed through my body. I gazed into the water, which started rippling. The ground started shaking under my legs, but I continued to stare in awe as something finally formed itself in the water.

It was a Destroyer. It didn't seem to notice I was watching it, I continued watching it for a moment before pulling back.

"It's a Destroyer. We fought them earlier." I muttered, looking at Syd. "We have to stop them."

"How did you DO that?" Gwen asked, puzzled.

"Just lucky, I guess." I remarked, smiling.

"We can't do this alone. We need help." Ogden suggested. "Maybe the local populace, these Norn, can help out."

"No, we'll need my people's knowledge. My fellow Asura will surely know how to deal with this threat." Vekk shouted at Ogden.

"They're both wrong." Gwen said. "It's the Ebon Vanguard who need your help."

"The power of the Norn!"

"My people's knowledge!"

"Our right for revenge!"

"Well bookahs, it's your choice." Vekk said, turning to Syd and me. "Which do we do first?"

"How come we always have to make the hard decisions?" Syd asked.

"You're...just lucky, I guess." Gwen chuckled before walking away.

Syd.. what can i say that you havent heard before? As always you have out done yourself.. I can see you enjoy writing these stories hence why you do it.. but thats not exactly what i meant.. A story can only tell so much to the reader.. But once the story has energy, life, humour breathed into it, it turns into an adventure for that person reading it.. They feel that are a part of the story now.. I dont know where I am exactly going with this but I just felt like i needed to wrie that.. well once again a job well done.. bravo
