The new players guide.

After reading through the forums I noticed that there are a lot of well written comments and thought but its lacking one thing. What? I hear you ask. The new players guide for Fangs.

Yep thats it, a new player join Fang for whatever reason, some one who maybe knows a member or two but is a total GW virgin (I avoid the word 'novice' or its variants because I found it offensive when I was a new player)

So consider me the 'self proclaimed new player assistance sub officer type person' or for short 'SPNPASOTP' okay, maybe not... ignore that! (place LOL here if applicable)

what the hell is this all about then?
I'm going to assume you have been playing Guild Wars for about a week or so, maybe less and now your in a clan. Our clan!

What do you do now? Whats the point in the game? Is it like WoW? Whats an instance? Wheres the Guild Hall?

These are just some of the thoughts I had when I started my GW journey. Lets look at this. Firstly, no this is not like Warcraft, not even in the slightest way, if your coming to GW from WoW then prepare to be re-educated. Guild Wars is a skill based game not an item or level based game.

First off you can hit the L key at any time to view your Quests (L for Log get it?) this is your bible, this is a list of all the things you have to do, don't ever expect to see it empty, this never happens. Ever as far as I know!

Just select the quest you want to do, then follow the green arrow. Although you don't need to read the quest notes to complete it as most are 'go here, kill this' its worth reading the notes because they are fantastically well put together and adds a lot of lore to the game.

Skills are another important part of this game, see that bar at the screen? Thats your skill bar. Its a bar with your 8 currently equipped skills on it! When in an outpost area (the places with the other people, where your not alone) you can hit the 'K' key (for sKills.. I know... its stupid) and re-arrange, your skills and skill points, this is something that I am not going to get into depth about mostly because this 'build' concept is a massive part of the game and subject of massive debate!

Now its a process of read everything, think about what other players are telling you and for the love of god READ THE MANUAL!

I know this article has covered almost nothing about the game but I am hoping that its helped a little at least. I will be writing more articles like this adding more to the thread for new players.

So the final things you need to know is the holly book of knowledge, also know as the wiki is found at http://wiki.guildwars.com its got almost everything you need to know about anything... well anything GW related anyway.

Next thing to remember is that the guild is here to help. So ask!

Oh well, never mind, the magical powers of Doggie can move it.

As for the guide itself pretty cool, but i've noticed that GW, especially in the later campaigns, did a pretty decent job with the tutorials and stuff.

And one more thing which I found justly unfair when I first started playing....

You can only have 1 'Elite' Skill on your skill bar at any time....unless you've just capped another one using a 'Signet Of Capture'.

It sucks, I know, but it's something you need to get used to Razz

Good guide, BTW Very Happy

I think most elite skills are not 'elite-enough' i mean, most are just slightly buffed regular skills.

and allot need way too much energy to active. some of the most well thought out builds i have ever seen only have the elite on there for the sake of using the slot

as for the dye thing... yeah.... lol.. we all did that!

I don't know whether to laugh or cry at that one...

But seriously, if you do need a hand or just have a question regarding how the game works etc. Just ask us. We were new to this once too and we know how frustrating it gets sometimes.

*Experiences flashbacks of Jokanur Diggings* - Damn those undead and flame traps! And damn that Graven Monolith!

LOL, I am Diddleys Wife, and to his defense, I kinda threw him to the wolves here! I have taught him a lil bit when i had time, but the problem is he is only allowed to play when i'm not on the pc, which means I am not home, LOL. Also he never has really ever played any video games, esp RPG's, he grew up when pinball was the thing Razz. He would greatly appreciate any help you all could give him, AND who uses a MANUAL!! Razz

yeah i have to be honest i skipped the manual for months then one day realized that they are written like in game lore and are actually REALLY REALLY entertaining. my favorite so far is the prophecies one its a really well thought out read!

mind you the eye of the north one is basically an example of how lazy arena net can be.. its not even a leaflet! !
